Reconstructing the History of Structure Formation using Redshift Distortions

چکیده
Measuring the statistics of galaxy peculiar velocities using redshift-space distortions is an excellent way of probing the history of structure formation. Because galaxies are expected to act as test particles within the flow of matter, this method avoids uncertainties due to an unknown galaxy density bias. We show that the parameter combination measured by redshift-space distortions, fσ 8 provides a good test of dark energy models, even without the knowledge of bias or σ mass 8

An Inversion Method for Measuring β in Large Redshift Surveys
A precision method for determining the value of β = Ω m /b, where b is the galaxy bias parameter, is presented. In contrast to other existing techniques that focus on estimating this quantity by measuring distortions in the redshift space galaxy-galaxy correlation function or power spectrum, this method removes the distortions by reconstructing the real space density field and determining the v...
متن کاملReconstructing Nonlinear Stochastic Bias from Velocity Space Distortions
We propose a strategy to measure the dark matter power spectrum using minimal assumptions about the galaxy distribution and the galaxy-dark matter cross-correlations. We argue that on large scales the central limit theorem generically assures Gaussianity of each smoothed density field, but not coherence. Asymptotically, the only surviving parameters on a given scale are galaxy variance σ, bias ...
متن کاملUsing Perturbative Least Action to Reconstruct Redshift Space Distortions
In this paper, we present a redshift space reconstruction scheme which is analogous to and extends the Perturbative Least Action (PLA) method described by Goldberg & Spergel (2000). We first show that this scheme is effective in reconstructing even nonlinear observations. We then suggest that by varying the cosmology to minimize the quadrupole moment of a reconstructed density field, it may be ...

متن کاملTesting Cosmological Structure Formation using Redshift-Space Distortions
Observations of redshift-space distortions in spectroscopic galaxy surveys offer an attractive method for observing the build-up of cosmological structure. In this paper we develop and test a new statistic based on anisotropies in the measured galaxy power spectrum, which is independent of galaxy bias and matches the matter power spectrum shape on large scales. The amplitude provides a constrai...
